The PWA is proud to announce that the Professional World Tour will be returning to Japan for the first time in over 24 years
In 2017, Tsukuihama beach, in Yokosuka city will play host to the Fly! ANA Windsurfing World Cup. The finest Slalom sailors from around the globe will congregate in Japan from the 11th to 16th May to continue their quest to secure the title of Professional Slalom World Champion.
Despite its valued position in the windsurfing world, there has not been a PWA World Tour Event in Japan since the early nineties. But Japan’s love affair with windsurfing has not been lost and, now, thanks to the support of ANA, Keikyu Corporation and Yokosuka City, Pro Windsurfing will take its rightful place on the shores of Honshu once again.
The event was the brainchild of dedicated windsurfer and ANA pilot, Taro Fujimoto, and the project quickly captured the imagination of all involved.

Yuto Yoshida – Mayor Yokosuka City
“I am very pleased to have the “Fly!ANA Windsurfing World Cup YOKOSUKA Japan” be held next year. Yokosuka is a city with a warm climate that is home to the beautiful scenery of blue sea and an abundance of nature. Yokosuka’s Tsukuihama Beach is also fortunate to have stable sideshore winds. I am extremely excited to be able to see the world’s top athletes perform in Yokosuka, and I look forward to meeting everyone.”

Jimmy Diaz – PWA Chairman
“Japan has always been an important nation in windsurfing and is a valuable part of the global market. We have been lucky enough to enjoy the company of some of the Japanese athletes who have competed on tour over the years so we are very happy to visit them in their home nation and bring the highest level off the sport back to Japan after what has been far too long a break. We are grateful to ANA, Keikyu Corporation and the city of Yokosuka, as well as all the people who have worked to make this event a reality. We hope this will be the first of many visits to Japan by the PWA Tour!”

Further event details and the full 2017 PWA Calendar will be released soon.
